The Curtain Closet holds many donated curtains from the S. Lichtenberg Curtain Company in NYC. All the donations are available at the WPSC Gift Shoppe located across from the West Point cemetery. The curtains are free to the West Point community and all donations made benefit WPSC community outreach efforts 100%!
A little history…
Herb Lichtenberg, a 1955 USMA graduate and owner of the S. Lichtenberg Curtain Company, began donating curtains to the Spouses’ Club after a chance conversation between Herb Lichtenberg and Anne Lennox, the wife of the USMA Superintendent. Herb told Mrs. Lennox that his curtain company disposed of all end of year samples and excess inventory. When Mrs. Lennox mentioned the Army families at West Point could use curtains to help decorate their ever-changing homes, Herb started shipping them to the Spouses’ Club.
The Club received the first shipment around 2004. Over the years, pillows, bedding, bolts of fabric and once a special shipment of 12 month-old to 14 year-old dresses! For years the dresses showed up in concerts, plays and talent shows at the West Point Middle School. The Lichtenberg donations have always and will always be made available to the West Point Community.
